Skipping the usual framework mid-week. Wanted to just catch you up on life, because it's been a lot the last couple weeks and most of it didn't fit neatly into a lesson.
Kids and my wife landed back from Japan Tuesday evening. If you've been following along, you know the trip mattered, family, roots, all of it. Good trip. It is good to have everyone back under one roof again. The house is louder now, in the best way. Kid’s are already asking me for Roblox.
The bigger update is Phoenix.
We fostered him for a while, worked through some things with him, got him healthy. The plan was always to give him back to the Humane Society once he was ready for his forever home. I told the boys it was about responsibility, doing the hard thing, following through on a commitment even when it hurts.
Then I went to visit him the morning after his surgery and found a dog I barely recognized. Happy, healthy, and about as bonded to me as a dog can get in that short a window. Called my wife, still in Japan at the time, and told her I couldn't leave him there.
Phoenix is officially part of the family now.
I kept it a secret and surprised the boys with him when they landed. Did not go according to plan, my youngest started asking questions two days early and I had to do an emergency FaceTime reveal to stop a full meltdown. Got him crying happy tears on camera instead of sad ones. Forgot to turn the sound on for the recording, so there's a beautiful, completely silent video of the best reaction I've gotten out of that kid all year.
That's about the size of it. Family's home. Dog's home. House is a mess. Wouldn't trade it.
Back to the regular stuff next week.
