Today’s newsletter was inspired by a post I read on X by @theandreilucian.

I have written about this in the past and I loved to see other people thinking the same way.

Inconsistency does not feel expensive in the moment it happens.

It feels reasonable. One missed morning. One skipped rep. One week where the system paused because the circumstances were difficult.

None of it registers as a real cost at the time.

The bill arrives later, and it arrives compounded.

継続は力なり. Continuance is power.

THE RESET

A missed week does not just pause progress. It requires the following weeks to rebuild what was already lost before any new ground gets covered.

A broken streak in any discipline is rarely a flat cost. It is a cost plus the interest of rebuilding momentum from a lower starting point.

Multiply that across years of stop-start effort in fitness, work, relationships, and faith, and the total cost is staggering compared to what steady, unremarkable, boring consistency would have produced with far less total effort.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY COSTS

Your children do not experience your best day. They experience your average week. The father who is fully present four dramatic days a month and absent the rest is not remembered for the dramatic days. He is remembered for the pattern.

Inconsistency spends trust. Consistency is the only thing that rebuilds it. And trust does not rebuild on the same schedule it erodes.

You cannot out-talent the man who started earlier. You cannot out-time the man who got the lucky break. You can out-continue both of them. Consistency is the only lever available to every man regardless of where he is starting from.

THE FIX

The fix is not becoming a more disciplined version of the same inconsistent pattern.

It is building a system small enough to survive the bad days, because the bad days are where the expensive habit actually gets purchased.

Protect the floor. Not the ceiling.

The floor is what determines whether the compounding survives long enough to become visible.

Show up. Again tomorrow. That is the whole system.

Talent is a gift. Timing is luck. Consistency is the only one of the three you fully control.

Build on the one nobody can take from you and nobody can hand you either.

継続は力なり.

Continuance is power.

Stay disciplined.
